General Requirements for Applying

Mechanical Engineer – Requirements

Core Engineering Skills

  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks strongly preferred; Fusion 360, CATIA, or Siemens NX a plus)

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, fatigue, and vibration modeling

  • Understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer

  • Mechanical system design: frames, housings, enclosures, mechanical linkages, structural systems

  • Tolerance analysis, GD&T, and manufacturability optimization

Prototyping & Fabrication Knowledge

  • Familiarity with CNC machining, mills, lathes, and rapid prototyping

  • Additive manufacturing (FDM, SLA, SLS)

  • Material selection for structural, thermal, and harsh-environment conditions

  • Basic electrical/mechatronics understanding to integrate sensors, motors, and power systems

Testing & Validation

  • Conducting mechanical tests (load, torque, displacement, fatigue)

  • Failure-mode analysis (FMEA)

  • Developing test plans and documenting results for federal reporting

Electrical Engineer - Requirements

Circuit & System Design

  • PCB design and layout (Altium, KiCad, Eagle)

  • Analog and digital circuit design

  • Microcontroller/embedded-system architecture (STM32, AVR, ARM, TI, etc.)

  • Power electronics: converters, battery management, grounding, EMI/EMC best practices

Sensors & Instrumentation

  • Sensor integration (pressure, temperature, flow, IMU, proximity, environmental sensors)

  • Signal filtering, conditioning, and acquisition

  • Designing reliable wiring harnesses and electrical enclosures

Firmware & Control Systems

  • Programming microcontrollers (C, C++, Python)

  • Implementing control loops (PID, sensor feedback)

  • Communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, RS-485, Ethernet)

Testing & Safety

  • Oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers

  • High-voltage and low-voltage system safety standards

  • Verification and validation for rugged or field-deployed systems

Materials Engineer – Requirements

Material Science Competencies

  • Knowledge of metals, polymers, composites, ceramics, and advanced materials

  • Properties analysis: thermal, mechanical, chemical, and environmental resistance

  • Understanding degradation mechanisms (corrosion, fatigue, oxidation, wear)

Manufacturing & Processing Skills

  • Material selection based on environmental and safety requirements

  • Experience with coatings, surface treatments, and microstructure modification

  • Understanding casting, extrusion, molding, lamination, and composite layups

Testing & Analysis

  • Tensile, compressive, and shear testing

  • Thermal analysis (DSC, TGA)

  • Microscopy (SEM, optical)

  • Failure analysis of materials under extreme conditions

Research & Development

  • Developing or evaluating new material formulations

  • Applying material data to mechanical and electrical system designs

Software Engineer – Requirements

Software Development Skills

  • Strong programming knowledge (Python, C++, Java, or Rust)

  • Experience with backend logic, data processing, system automation, and API integration

  • Version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows

Systems & Simulation

  • Writing software for modeling, simulation, or optimization tools

  • Understanding numerical methods, data handling, and algorithm development

  • Familiarity with control systems, robotics, or embedded software is a plus

Tools & Frameworks

  • Python scientific stack: NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib

  • Optional: ROS (Robot Operating System), machine learning libraries

Quality & Reliability

  • Unit testing, code documentation, error handling

  • Developing stable and scalable software architectures

Research Scientist – Requirements

Scientific Foundation

  • Strong background in physics, chemistry, environmental science, or engineering research

  • Ability to design and execute controlled experiments

  • Mathematical modeling, data interpretation, and hypothesis testing

Lab & Analytical Skills

  • Use of analytical instruments (spectroscopy, microscopy, thermal analysis, etc.)

  • Developing experimental setups for engineering systems

  • Recording measurements with precision and traceability

Technical Writing & Reporting

  • Writing research summaries, literature reviews, and grant-support documents

  • Preparing technical papers, charts, and experimental results

Innovation & Development

  • Identifying research gaps and proposing technologies to address engineering challenges

  • Supporting patent-safe R&D without revealing proprietary details

Data Analyst – Technical Requirements

Analytical & Technical Skills

  • Data cleaning, preprocessing, and transformation

  • Statistical modeling and mathematical analysis

  • Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy), R, or MATLAB

Visualization & Reporting

  • Creating graphs, dashboards, and visual summaries using:

    • Matplotlib

    • Plotly

    • Tableau (optional)

  • Ability to identify trends, anomalies, and performance insights

Engineering Data Experience

  • Working with sensor data, test results, simulation output

  • Handling large datasets from prototypes or experiments

  • Collaborating with engineers to structure data efficiently

Reporting Specialist

Technical Writing Skills

  • Ability to convert engineering results into clear, compliant documents

  • Experience writing for federal agencies (NSF, EPA, DoD, SBIR)—a major plus

  • Understanding engineering terminology and test procedures

Compliance & Administrative Skills

  • Maintaining traceable documentation for prototypes, experiments, and test reports

  • Supporting the company with:

    • Quarterly grant reporting

    • Milestone documentation

    • Budget breakdowns

    • Deliverable summaries

Tools & Software

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Document formatting for scientific and engineering accuracy

  • Data integration into reports (figures, charts, tables)

Communication

  • Coordinating with engineers, scientists, and management to gather accurate information

  • Ensuring reports meet agency requirements and internal standards
